Compare the2027 Chevrolet BoltVS 2026 Nissan Leaf

2027 Chevrolet Bolt
2026 Nissan Leaf

Safety

Both the Bolt and Leaf have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Bolt has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Leaf’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Bolt and the Leaf have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available around view monitors and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The Bolt’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Leaf’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are almost 3 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Nissan dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Bolt’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Nissan vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in long-term dependability. With 33 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Nissan is rated below average.

Engine

The Bolt’s electric motor produces 36 more horsepower (210 vs. 174) than the Leaf S’ standard electric motor.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Bolt gets better mileage than the Leaf:

MPGe

Bolt

Electric Motor

134 city/106 hwy

Leaf

SV+ Electric Motor

122 city/105 hwy

Platinum+ Electric Motor

110 city/96 hwy

The Bolt can travel longer on a full charge than the Leaf Platinum+ (262 miles vs. 259 miles).

Tires and Wheels

The Bolt’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Leaf’s standard 55 series tires.

Chassis

The Bolt is 3.8 inches shorter than the Leaf, making the Bolt easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Bolt uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Leaf doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Bolt has 4.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Leaf (96.6 vs. 92).

The Bolt has .1 inches more front headroom, 1.9 inches more front legroom, .6 inches more rear headroom and 7.3 inches more rear legroom than the Leaf.

Cargo Capacity

The Bolt has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Leaf with its rear seat folded (56.3 vs. 55.5 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The power windows standard on both the Bolt and the Leaf have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the Bolt is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The Leaf prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

The Bolt’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Leaf’s passenger windows don’t open automatically.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Bolt has a standard rear wiper. The Leaf doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Bolt’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Nissan only offers heated mirrors on the Leaf Platinum+.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Bolt keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Leaf doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.
