2024 Chevrolet Camaro
2024 Jaguar F-Type

Safety

The Chevrolet Camaro has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The F-Type doesn’t offer knee airbags.

Both the Camaro and the F-Type have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available collision warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

There are over 15 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Camaro’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Camaro first among midsize sporty cars in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The F-Type isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in initial quality. With 19 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is rated lower.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet above average in long-term dependability. With 21 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Jaguar is rated below average.

Engine

The Camaro ZL1’s 6.2 supercharged V8 produces 75 more horsepower (650 vs. 575) and 134 lbs.-ft. more torque (650 vs. 516) than the F-Type R75’s optional 5.0 supercharged V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Camaro gets better mileage than the F-Type:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Camaro V6/V8 Auto’s fuel efficiency. The F-Type doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Camaro uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended on Camaro LT1/SS for maximum performance). The F-Type requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

The Camaro has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The F-Type doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

The Camaro offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The F-Type doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

A 10-speed automatic is available on the Chevrolet Camaro, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the F-Type.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Camaro ZL1’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the F-Type:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Camaro ZL1 1LE Coupe’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the F-Type (F:305/30R19 & R:325/30R19 vs. F:265/35R20 & R:305/30R20).

The Camaro SS 1LE/ZL1’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-Type’s 35 series front tires.

The Camaro has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The F-Type doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the Camaro can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The F-Type doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Camaro’s wheelbase is 7.5 inches longer than on the F-Type (110.7 inches vs. 103.2 inches).

The Camaro ZL1 1LE Coupe handles at 1.18 G’s, while the F-Type R75 Coupe pulls only .99 G’s of cornering force in a Road and Track skidpad test.

The Camaro SS Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.5 seconds quicker than the F-Type R75 Coupe (22.9 seconds @ .91 average G’s vs. 24.4 seconds @ .82 average G’s).

Chassis

The Chevrolet Camaro may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 350 pounds less than the Jaguar F-Type.

Passenger Space

The Camaro has standard seating for 4 passengers; the F-Type can only carry 2.

The Camaro Coupe has 1.7 inches more front headroom and 1.1 inches more front legroom than the F-Type Coupe.

The Camaro Convertible has 1.4 inches more front headroom and 1.1 inches more front legroom than the F-Type Convertible.

Ergonomics

The Camaro’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The F-Type does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Camaro (except LT1) offers an available heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, warning, turn signal and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The F-Type doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

On a hot day the Camaro Convertible has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The F-Type doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to enter the car, turn the ignition on and lower the top.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Camaro has standard extendable sun visors. The F-Type doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The Camaro’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The F-Type’s visors are fixed into the windshield header.

With optional voice command, the Camaro offers the driver hands free control of the radio and the navigation computer by simply speaking. The F-Type doesn’t offer a voice control system.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Chevrolet Camaro (except LT1) offers an optional wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The F-Type doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Economic Advantages

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Chevrolet Camaro will be $25245 to $44070 less than for the Jaguar F-Type.

Recommendations

The Camaro was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2016, 2017, and 2018. The F-Type has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

Motor Trend selected the Camaro as their 2016 Car of the Year. The F-Type has never been chosen.

The Chevrolet Camaro outsold the Jaguar F-Type by almost 20 to one during 2022.
